With anything you add to your operation there needs to be a return on investment.
In any given year a tiled field can show a 10-45+ bu/ac yield increase in corn, but there is more return than just higher yields. A producer needs to also look at the following when calculating the ROI of putting tile in on their farm.
* Entering the field earlier in the spring
* Increased efficiency in the spring (not going around wet holes)
* Less compaction
* Increased soil health
* Less replant from drowning out
* Increased efficiency of fertilizers and herbicides
* Increased root development
* Increased plant stand
* Decreased erosion
* Improved ground conditions for harvest
With the right subsurface drainage system in place, these are factors that tile will pay back on year after year.
